Music and fried dough in the Parks - Mike @ 22:58 EDT

We're back at it again for the summer!!! The fundraising committee is serving Hammer's Fabulous Fried Dough in both Pavilion Park in Lake Luzerne on Thursday's and Hadley Park on Friday's, during the weekly musical entertainment. The band in Luzerne was great tonight, "John Kribs and Friends". Tomorrow in Hadley, "Blues Menagerie" will be performing. Stop by and say hi. You can renew your membership for the upcoming season or just visit with us. Joe Emery will also be doing the 50/50. Last Friday in Hadley, it was worth almost $150.00. Mike Mason donated back a generous portion of his winnings also...thanks Mike!!!

We are still soliciting ads for the new maps we are producing. The map will be used for the next two years. If you are interested, please contact Mark at 518-696-3464 or markmcl@roadrunner.com

Hope everyone is enjoying the heat, but remember the leaves will start changing in a few weeks and we can open the trails in less then 5 months!!!

Our first meeting is in September; stay tuned for the meeting schedule. I am working on it now.

Trails are "Closed" - Mike @ 23:18 EDT

As of Friday morning, our trails are officially "Closed".

We will begin closing our gates tomorrow. The snow is going fast and some trails are right down to the ground. We want to protect our landowners that allow us to use their property from excessive damage due to the lack of snowcover, along with the obvious safety concerns involved.

Please stay off the trails from now on.

Thank you to all our members, officers, directors, government officials, landowners and everyone else that helps us do the things we do to be successful.

We look forward to a much better year next season.

Mike

Trail Update 2/28/10 / Lost and found - Mike @ 15:24 EDT

We had one of the busiest weekends on the trails that I have ever seen. Every parking area was overflowing with trucks and trailers, it was incredible!!! The Dog Sled races were very cool, those dogs are awesome, they live to run! We are trying to do our best with the groomers, but the temperature is not cold enough to work the snow the way we need to. Our trails are basically destroyed right now due to the extreme level of use and temperature. We will do our absolute best to get them back into shape as quickly and efficiently as possible.

I just got this e-mail and if anyone can help Tony out, it would be great. See below......

Hey Mike,

Finally had a chance to check out the new trail you guys made going to West Mountain, nice job. I was wondering if you could put a little something about a few items I lost this Saturday the 27th, I lost 2 pairs of Black Coldwave Gloves, 1 pair is insulated and the other is un-insulated, also more importantly is a hat .It’s kind of cream colored and it is shaped like a angel fish. I have had it for about 15 years and it cannot be replaced. I lost them between West Mountain and the Lake Luzerne Dump either on S44 or C48. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for all that you do. Tony Doherty

Grooming and Tree Cutting, not always in that order / Trail Update 2/25/10 - Mike @ 01:47 EDT

I just got home from grooming, but I think I could call it lumberjacking
instead, if that's a word.

The club was out in force today, trying to make the best out of the short time
left in our dismal season. Mark Ladu and Scott Fearman were out together today,
Bob Fearman and Nick Lamando were at it tonight, as were Mike Dalaba and Glenn
Shiel. Tom Bovee was out with me for almost 8 hours. It was a lot of work, but
we managed to cover almost the whole trail system in one day. We have a great
bunch of dedicated people in this club, let me tell you. We are very lucky to
be surrounded by the crew we have on board. For example, Bob Fearman's machine
broke a belt at 9PM tonight in the middle of nowhere. Our Director of Equipment
Maintenance and Repair Mark Ladu, was on his sled immediately with the parts and
tools needed for the job. He had Bob and Nick up and running in no time.
Thanks Mark!

I can't believe the amount of snow we got in certain areas...over 25" in
spots!!! If you think groomers can go anywhere without getting stuck, think
again. We were all fighting our machines all night. The warm temps and wet
snow did not help a bit either. The snow was sloppy, wet and heavy. There were
trees and limbs down everywhere you looked. There are still a few spots we need
to hit and we will be back out there tomorrow and Friday, finishing it all up.
I hope to have the trail to West Mountain opened up by Saturday, but there is
some major pine tree clearing that needs to be done first. Some of the heaviest
snowfall amounts were in the area of that trail. I got a voicemail today from
Mike Barbone, owner of West Mountain. He is very anxious to get some
snowmobilers over there to see his newly remodeled restaurant.

Look for the trails to be declared officially "OPEN" on Friday or Saturday.

On Saturday and Sunday, from 9AM to around 3 or 4 PM, trail C4A, specifically
the stretch that runs from our Groomer Barn in Lake George to Ciro's in Luzerne,
will be closed to host an event that should be pretty cool to see. The Lake
George Winter Carnival will be putting on Dog Sled Races those two days. We
would love to have a great member turnout to help support the concession stand
our Party Committee is setting up in our groomer barn on Transfer Road. We will
have hot dogs, burgers, fried dough, coffee, hot cocoa, soda and water. Try and
stop by and say hi. All of our other trails will remain open on both days.

Lastly and most importantly, COMON UP AND RIDE!!!!! We've been waiting all year
for this and there are only a few good weeks left, at best.

Mike
