Meeting Minutes

February 10th 2019

Official minutes of the 2/10/2019 South Warren Snowmobile Club Meeting called to order at 7:00pm by President Bob Grant at the American Legion Post Hall.

 

11 Members in attendance

 

The Pledge of Allegiance was stated.

 

A Moment of Silence was observed in memory of Bob Mayo a member of the South Warren Snowmobile Club.

 

Secretary Minutes:

President Bob Grant stated that the January Secretary Minutes were online and passed out to all members in attendance. Hearing no corrections to the Minutes motion made by Sherry Saheim – second by Coleen Flynn to accept the minutes – unanimously approved.

 

Treasurers Report:

697 Members Dues Paid

All Bills Paid

There was 1000 gallons of gas sold at Stewarts. Please remember to sign the gas log books when getting gas for your snowmobiles

Motion to accept the Treasurer’s Report was made by Matt Plummer – second by Sherry Saheim – approved.

 

Correspondence:

A Thank You letter from Al & Wanda Gawron was read by President Bob Grant. They Thanked the Groomers and Club Members for all of their hard work in keeping the Trails in Great Shape and putting up the signs.

 

President Bob Grant Thanked Mark Ladu for the Great Job he has done on the Facebook Page. He also thanked all of the groomers, members who helped at the Snowmobile Races for cooking and the Groomers for taking care of the Trails.

 

Mark McLain stated that the New York State Annual Snowmobile Club Meeting will be held on April 26 – 28 in Niagara Falls. Please contact Mark if interested in attending this meeting.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

Trail Report:

President Bob Grant stated that the Lake George Town Trucks dumped snow onto the Bike Trail during the week for the Lake George Winter Carnival. The Bike Trail was closed.

 

 

Groomer Report

President Bob Grant, Matt and Tyler Plummer and Anthony and Douglas Grant cut down the Tree by Fourth Lake.

 

Mark McLain said that National Grid received the photos and stated that the work would be done in the Spring.

 

Roger Saheim and Matt Plummer stated that the groomers were working well and that they were just waiting for snow.

OLD BUSINESS

 

Snowmobile Race

The snowmobile races were held on Lake Luzerne on February 3, 2019. The Fire Company and SWSC worked together selling hotdogs, coffee, and breakfast sandwiches. It was extremely cold and the Fire Company suggested next year possibly setting up a Tent to keep everyone a little warmer. It was very successful.

 

Poker Run:

President Bob Grant stated that the Poker Run will be held on February 23, 2019 starting at Holiday Inn (TR’s Restaurant) in Lake George at 10am and end at the Garrison at 6pm. The stops will be Holiday Inn (TR’s Restaurant), Waterhouse Restaurant, American Legion Lake Luzerne, Long Horn Restaurant, Ciro’s Restaurant, Barnsider, Adirondack Bar & Grill, Duffy’s Tavern and the Garrison. The entry fee is $10 per person and vehicles are welcome. NO ATV’s. Rain or Shine. There will be poker chips handed out and the cards will be drawn at the Garrison.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

Snowsquall Party:

The Snowsquall Party will be held at the American Legion Post Hall on March 23, 2019. We are asking all members to please consider making a dish to bring to the party. Please contact Sherry Saheim or Coleen Flynn with what you will be bringing. Further details to come.

 

 

DEC:

Mark McLain said that DEC was reviewing the coverage that the Snowmobile Clubs had regarding insurance for DEC Property. They don’t feel that it is enough insurance coverage. They have hired independent consultants to research this. Mark contacted New York State about it and they feel that it is enough. There is $3 million of coverage per person.

 

Nominations:

President Bob Grant stated that if anyone is interested in being nominated for an office to please let him or Mark McLain know. Nominations will be done in March with the election in April. The positions are: President, Vice President, Treasurer, Secretary and Executive Director.

 

Mark McLain suggested that we move the Annual Monthly Meeting to March starting next year.

 

 

 

The next meeting will be held on Sunday March 3, 2019 at 7pm at the American Legion Post Hall.

January 6, 2019

Official minutes of the 1/6/2019 South Warren Snowmobile Club Meeting called to order at 7:00pm by President Bob Grant at the American Legion Post Hall.

Secretary Minutes:

President Bob Grant stated that the December Secretary Minutes were online and passed out to all members in attendance. Hearing no corrections to the Minutes motion made by Matt Plummer – second by Mark McLain to accept the minutes – unanimously approved.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

Trail Report:

President Bob Grant stated that with the snow arriving there most likely will be more trees to cut down and remove from the trails.

 

Groomer Report

President Bob Grant stated that all of the radios were in the groomers. There was discussion about programming the radios in the groomers.

 

Roger Saheim reported that he had spoken with Rob Ripp and that the new plans were submitted.

OLD BUSINESS

 

Snowmobile Training Course:

Simone Ramsey reported that the Snowmobile Training Course was held on December 29th at the Warren County Sheriff’s Office in Queensbury. There was a total of 14 people in attendance – 3 Adults and 11 children. Greg did a power point. There will be a class in North Warren on January 12th. Simone’s daughter is now a certified instructor. Next year it will be done earlier than December.

 

Snowmobile Race

There will be a snowmobile race held on Lake Luzerne on February 3, 2019. The Fire Company and SWSC will work together with selling hotdogs, coffee, and breakfast sandwiches. All entrance fees will come to the club.

 

Thurman Connection:

Ken Brooks and Ron Brooks stated that all of the signs were up for the Thurman Trails. They are working on the connection with the ski center. NYSSA has their internet map up and it is work in progress.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

Lake George Winter Carnival:

President Bob Grant stated that he received a phone call from Lou, Lake George Winter Carnival chair, who stated that they wanted the snowmobile club to put on a poker run on the 2nd or 4th Saturday. The Lake George Winter Carnival Association will donate $1000 towards the SWSC for putting on this event. The end point would be at the Garrison. It was suggested to do the poker run by snowmobile or by vehicle. The suggestions of the places to attend were Duffy’s, King Neptune, Holiday Inn, Longhorn, American Legion, Adirondack Bar and Grill, Barnsider, Waterhouse Restaurant, Garrison. The suggestion was to hold it on Saturday February 9, 2019.

 

Snowsquall Party:

It was suggested to form a committee to look into holding the Snowsquall Party at the American Legion Post Hall. Further details will come at a later date.

 

The next meeting will be held on Sunday February 3, 2019 at 7pm at the American Legion Post Hall.

SWSC Minutes

October 7, 2018

 

  • Call to order – 7:05pm – Luzerne American Legion

  • Treasurers Report – mark Read all bills paid, 204 present members – Colleen -1st, 2nd Roger – all in favor

  • Trail Report – Piston Bully has arrived. Putting the metal track on it now.

  • Groomer driver mtg to be scheduled. Billy Brandt would like to go over the new groomer with the guys. Also Mark spoke on importance of the log books to be made out properly when driving groomers.

  • Mnt Kenyon looking to sell and turn into a glamping Campground shouldn’t affect the club. – Trail by stewarts in question on how far back into the woods we will have to be to go to Stewarts the land owner is concerned about his children. Zubals old house on the corner also concern now the husband left the wife and not sure of Snowmobile access to Waterhouse that way. Roaring brook logging into November – Mike is going in after logger done to look over the situation. Bridge work Stewarts in Lake Luzerne now may have to be built in different location.

  • Bike Path – No damage was reported the news media was all fake news. Also the county will now allow SWSC to open gates on bike path and run groomer down to pack snow and then close gates back up into the word is given to leave open.

  • New Trail maps our getting printed will be distributed once completed.

  • Trail signs will be going out as well at intersections they came out real nice.

  • Mtg adjourn at 8:10pm next mtg will be November 4, 2018

December 2018 - 12/2/2018

Official minutes of the 12/2/2018 South Warren Snowmobile Club Meeting called to order at 7:00pm by President Bob Grant at the American Legion Post Hall.

President Bob stated that at the executive meeting held in November the following Officers were elected to serve until the elections in April:

In April we will hold new elections and any member may run for office.

 

Secretary Minutes:

President Bob Grant read the November Secretary Report. Minutes approved by Roger Saheim – second Ed Bus – unanimously approved.

Motion made by Rich Watkins – second by Ed Bus – unanimously approved

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS

 

Trail Report:

Mike Zilm stated that Roger Saheim and Matt Plummer put in 3 culverts and pulled stumps to make things smoother and wider behind Roaring Brook. Mike Zilm put up the signage over by the Adirondack Bar and Grill. Scott Smith will go behind the Adirondack Bar and Grill and check for trees. Bob Grant and Mark McLain cut trees down behind Mount Kenyon and Hole in the Woods. Ed Bus will check a trail out after hunting season. The trail behind Stewarts in Lake Luzerne the owner wants all of the metal gone so they will make sure that it is moved.

 

Groomer Report

Roger Saheim said that the Groomer Safety Meeting will be held on Sunday December 9 at Billy’s house. Anyone interested in driving the groomer should attend. On the LG PB Groomer the track was fixed, oil changed, and drags adjusted and greased. No one should be on the trails until the groomers are out first.

 

It was stated that the other groomer will go into the shop next week to be adjusted, greased, and oil changed.

 

 

 

Executive Report:

President Bob Grant stated that the Executive Board Meeting that was held at Waterhouse Restaurant was a very good meeting and everyone seems to be back on the right game track.

Albert Brooks resigned so Mark Ladu was appointed as a Board Member.

All ads are paid. West Signs will be making the Intersection signs. The New Maps should be arriving shortly.

 

Fundraising Committee:

Everyone will be working together to help with fundraising.

 

OLD BUSINESS

 

President Bob said that the trail behind Prospect Mountain is still a No Go. Mark McLain said that he spoke with Dan Stec about the property.

 

Mark McLain said that the snowmobile racing will be held on the Lake in Lake Luzerne the 1st weekend in February. The snowmobile club will be doing hotdogs, coffee and hot chocolate. It was decided to work with the Luzerne Hadley Fire Department.

 

NEW BUSINESS

 

The President of the Thurman Snowmobile Club Ken Brooks spoke on the Railroad Tracks and other Trail items. He stated that all 4 of the snowmobile clubs met together to see if they can l get connected on the trail system. He stated that last Monday they received the approval from Warren County for the railroad tracks which will run from Stony Ranch Resort to 418. He stated that they will work on the bridge and then it will be ready. Next year he requested that the County approve up to North Creek. The Town of Thurman made a new road that went over the railroad track, so they shut down the tracks as they were getting ready to get the rest of the train out from North Creek. They are also trying to open 2 more bridges from Harrisburg Lake to Dog and Pup. He stated that New York State is working on an electronic map for the entire state which they hope to have completed shortly. The State is also working on a Groomer Identification so that they know where they are, they will be a Beacon put in the groomers if nyssa and nys approve the plan.

 

Safety Course:

Greg Dunn will schedule the Safety Course on December 22 at the Warren County Sheriff’s Office. Simone and Mark Ramsey requested more instructors. The forms will be put on the website.

 

Snowsquall Party:

President Bob asked for a chairman for the “Snowsquall Party.” No response so it was decided to have a committee. It was proposed to hold it not on the same weekend as the Snowmobile Races but one weekend in February.

 

The next meeting will be held on Sunday January 6, 2019 at 7pm at the American Legion Post Hall.

FEBRUARY 1, 2018

Meeting was held at Ciro’s Restaurant. Members in attendance were 18. Meeting started at 7:15 p. m.

TREASURER REPORT: We have 712 paid members. We have no unpaid bills.

TRAIL REPORT: Trails are closed.

GROOMER REPORT: All the groomers are in good shape. Ignition switch was fixed in the Luzerne groomer. New blades have been ordered for the drags.

FUND RAISING REPORT: February 3rd Lake Luzerne will have Rock Maple snowmobile racing. Wes is heading fund raising for the club. He and his crew will sell hot dogs, coffee and hot chocolate. He will have a tarp and salamander at his station.

The snow squall party starts at 4:00 pm on Saturday the 3rd of February at the Lake Luzerne American Legion Hall. Many door prizes. $15.00 per person. Bring a dish to pass. Live music and entertainment.

 

NEW BUSINESS: Mark McClain, thinks that we will lose our groomer storage building at the new town garage. He thinks that we might be able to build a storage building at the old highway garage property. He will discuss with town officials. At this point we just had a motion to discuss new building at the end of season. Motion was made by Jerry and seconded by Tim, all in favor. It will be a groomer building only….no club house.

If anybody is interested in going to the NYS Snowmobile Association yearly forum in Niagara Falls, in April, please contact Mark McClain.
